Our curriculum and programme

Infants and toddlers

Infants and toddlers

Infants and toddlers

At crèche infants and toddlers are well cared for in a loving, safe environment by skilled and knowledgeable teachers who foster secure attachments with children in their care, allowing children to flourish, grow and learn.

Our high-quality teacher child ratios ensure that infants and toddlers have dedicated and safe spaces to explore and to make discoveries at their own pace and in their own time.

We are very proud of our child led programme and our small group size. This allows us to cater for our infants and toddler's individual requirements and care routines.

Being in a mixed age range setting ensures stability and continuity of care and attachments for toddlers as they grow and mature.

Literacy

Our very experienced and highly qualified team of teachers (100% registered) maintain and provide a rich emergent literacy programme for all our children. This ensures our tamariki  have the necessary experiences required for the acquisition of reading and writing skills.

We provide an abundance of literacy opportunities for all our learners and their interests at their varying stages of development. We have a range of books that reflect the diversity of language and culture within our community.

Children love having books read to them and are eager to engage with puppets, magnetic stories and other resources that bring language and literacy alive.

Indoor Environment

Indoor Environment

Our indoor environment is thoughtfully planned out to create learning spaces to meet the needs of all our children.

The main classroom is divided into different learning areas where children have easy access to resources that inspire and engage them.

A well-resourced dedicated art area is provided where children can create in a space led by learned teachers who facilitate rich visual art opportunities.

Wide open learning spaces allow for construction projects, dance, and the performing arts, storytelling, puzzles and opportunities for the children to come together for singing, music and teacher led learning experiences.

Outdoor Learning

Indoor Environment

To maximise the use of our outdoor space the environment is thoughtfully planned with the provision of quality equipment and resources, that inspire and enhance children's learning experiences.   These are regularly reviewed, refreshed and modified to inspire, extend and engage learning.

Having non static outdoor equipment allows us to accommodate the ever-changing interests and capabilities of our children.

Visual Arts

The visual arts are a strong and valued feature of our programme.

Our teachers engage in regular and ongoing professional learning to inspire and uphold best practice ensuring vibrant and varied opportunities for learners.

Older children have a separate classroom in which they are able to work a space where they are free to explore and create with a wide range of visual art resources that are developmentally appropriate.

In the main classroom all our learners have access to safe and suitable materials for our mixed age range centre.

We love being situated on the Village Green and in close proximity to the beach.  These wide-open spaces ensure children have the space, time and opportunity to have close encounters with nature and to connect with their community.   Offsite excursions are a regular feature of our programme for all age groups; quality adult child ratios are maintained at all times.

Being in nature gives children the opportunity to engage in quality physical exploration, running, jumping and climbing. Nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, creativity and problem solving.

Our relationship with our local marae has emphasised the significance of our children connecting with nature and our local landmarks.

Spending time in natural environments is shown to provide children with a sense of calm and tranquility enabling them to focus and make discoveries about their world.
